Normalization of Domestic Abuse in our Society

By October 19, 2018 No Comments
If we treat domestic violence like it’s normal behaviour, we allow it to perpetuate– women and young girls will believe that this is how they should expect to be treated and men will believe that it’s okay to treat women like this.

Below, Pauline Cooper shares how this was the case with her.

“I heard of many abuse stories, so I’m thinking it’s normal behaviour.” Pauline spent her life surrounded by other abuse victims, and by persons in T&T who treated abuse as though it weren’t the big deal that it is. As though, because it’s so commonplace, in a way it’s just “how men treat women” here.
